In this study, a significant link is found between summer rainfall over southern‐central Europe ( SCE ) and the circumglobal teleconnection ( CGT ). It is proposed that the SCE rainfall drives the CGT . The downstream‐extended CGT ‐like wave train is reproduced with a linearized barotropic vorticity equation model forced by an upper‐tropospheric divergence over SCE . This study provides an alternative mechanism for the formation and maintenance of the CGT .
