Abstract This paper studies the consensus control for multi‐agent systems with nonlinear functions satisfying the sector condition. To achieve consensus, we design a distributed output feedback protocol with an undetermined system matrix, and derive some conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to guarantee consensus of all agents' states. Furthermore, by solving three LMIs, the system matrix of the output feedback protocol is designed. Finally, we provide a simulation to show the effectiveness of the proposed consensus protocol.
