This paper provides a delay‐dependent criterion for a class of descriptor systems with a delay varying in an interval. This criterion, which can ensure the descriptor system is regular, impulse free and stable, involves fewer matrix variables but has less conservatism. Numerical examples illustrate the advantage of the criterion.Copyright © 2010 John Wiley and Sons Asia Pte Ltd and Chinese Automatic Control Society
