In the paper, a nonlinear equation with decreasing mass is considered. Sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions on the interval [ t 1 , t 2 ] are proved. Moreover, theorem on the stability of system and the existence of optimal control are presented. The proofs of the main results are based on variational method.
