A fullerene derivative bearing a carboxylic acid was dissolved in water by formation of a globular structure, which looks like the bamboo work in the picture, using β ‐1,3‐glucan as a solubilizing agent. The complex has a high photodynamic activity toward macrophages under visible‐light irradiation, because the carboxylic acid moieties in the complex enhance the binding affinity with β ‐1,3‐glucan‐receptors on the macrophage surface.
