Balance is everything : Two new non‐centrosymmetric polar quaternary selenides, AZn 4 In 5 Se 12 (A = Rb, Cs), which adopt a 3D diamond‐like framework (DLF) consisting of MSe 4 (M = Zn/In) tetrahedra have been synthesized. These exhibit a good balance between strong second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency (4×AgGaS 2 ) and high laser‐induced damage thresholds (LIDTs) (13×AgGaS 2 ). Upon analyzing their structure–property relationship, these DLF structures represent an unprecedented opportunity for the rational design and development of good IR nonlinear optical (NLO) materials.
