This special issue celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS). ICCAS was founded in 1956 and quickly rose to the forefront of chemical research by pursuing innovation, exploration of truth, unity and dedication (see cover picture, bottom line). Since 2005, researchers at ICCAS have published more than 700 peer‐reviewed papers per year, making it the top‐ranked independent institute in the country. The issue begins with a Guest Editorial by the institute director Prof. Deqing Zhang and deputy director Prof. Dujin Wang, and includes four Focus Reviews and 28 original research papers from ICCAS faculty and collaborators.
