Energetic Materials . Ionic energetic materials based on the 2,2‐dimethyltriazanium (DMTZ + ) cation represent the first examples of compounds based on a saturated ion containing a single bonded chain of more than two nitrogen atoms, which are stable under ambient conditions. The high heat of formation of the DMTZ + cation (+1197 kJ mol −1 ) led to the formation of new energetic salts, as reported by Carlos Miró Sabaté, Chaza Darwich et al. in their Full Paper on page 1668, which is featured on the Inside Cover. These new salts have higher heats of formation than the commonly used 1,3,5‐trinitroperhydro‐1,3,5‐triazine (RDX) and lower vapor pressures and toxicities than the commonly used hydrazines, thus making them of prospective interest for energetic applications.
