Water‐soluble near‐infrared (NIR)‐absorbing squaraine dyes were found to exhibit strong interactions with lysozyme and β‐amyloids. The effective interactions resulted in the complete disassembly of the β‐amyloid fibrillar structures to form spherical shaped particles. Accordingly, the results demonstrate the potential of the dyes for efficient protein labelling and as inhibiting agents of protein amyloidogenesis.
