The motorcyclization diaries : Palladium‐catalyzed intramolecular carboacetoxylation of 4‐pentenyl‐substituted malonates proceeds with the aid of titanium tetraisopropoxide and iodobenzene diacetate. The transformation represents the first Pd II /Pd IV catalytic oxidative process that forms an C sp 3 C sp 3 bond as well as a useful method for the synthesis of acetoxymethyl‐substituted cyclopentanes or bicyclic lactones.
