Germanium, palladium, and sulfur come together in the Ge 2 PdS 4 clusters [DmpGe(μ‐S)] 2 [(μ‐S) 2 Pd(dppe)] and [DmpGe(μ‐S)] 2 [(μ‐S) 2 Pd(PPh 3 )] (Dmp=2,6‐dimesitylphenyl, dppe=1,2‐bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ethane), which can be prepared from the dinuclear mercaptogermane syn‐[DmpGe(SH)(μ‐S) 2 Ge(SH)Dmp]. As K. Tatsumi and co‐workers demonstrate, the formation of this compound provides a novel entry to mercaptogermanes, which can be useful precursors to various germanium–transition‐metal complexes.
