Four rheumatologists kept a log of the diagnoses of all patients seen in their offices for 2 months. The great majority of patients had rheumatic complaints. Musculoskeletal pain syndromes and back syndromes were encountered most frequently; rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis were also common. Patients with SLE and connective tissue diseases were relatively infrequent.
