Identical twins with calcific periarthritis demonstrable at multiple sites first developed painful episodes of inflammation at age 22.The occurrence of this disorder in twins has not been reported previously. This observation, particularly if supported by additional cases with familial involvement, supports the possibility that the disease might be due to genetic inheritance of a metabolic defect.
