
An isohemagglutinin deficiency in relatives of rheumatoid patients

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis belonging to blood group 0 have deficient activity of anti‐A and anti‐B isohemagglutinins in chromatographic fractions containing γ ss , γ 1A and γ 1M globulins. Asymptomatic close relatives of these patients, if they too belong to blood group 0 have deficient isohemagglutinin activity only in an intermediate fraction containing y 1A and y ss globulins. Evidence is presented which suggests that the latter deficiency is attributable to the γ 1A globulin, and is not the result of complexing with rheumatoid factor.
