The occurrence of arthritis with acute meningococcal infection is reviewed and eleven cases presented. The arthritis is usually oligoarticular, often appears when the systemic or meningeal infection is improving, may give rise to persistent purulent but sterile and relatively painless joint effusions, is not greatly influenced by antibacterial therapy and seldom results in permanent joint damage.
