Gamma‐1A serum levels were found to be elevated in 74 per cent of 31 cases of acute rheumatic fever, more frequently than in rheumatoid arthritis, acute glomerulonephritis, and non‐complicated streptococcal infections. Some patients with clinically inactive rheumatic fever also demonstrated increased gamma‐1A. This finding could not be correlated with the severity of cardiac damage nor was it associated with continuing clinically inapparent activity. Surprisingly, gamma‐ 1M increase was observed in only 13 per cent of the cases.
