Antibody response to injected isologous blood group substances was measured in 15 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (S.L.E.) and compared with that of a matched control group. S.L.E. patients responded with higher titers of specific antibodies than did the control group. In addition, the appearance of anticoagulant factors, anti‐thyroglobulin antibodies, anti‐kidney antibodies and false positive serologic tests for syphilis was observed after stimulation. The findings seem to support the view that S.L.E. is associated with an abnormal antibody‐forming system.
