A critical evaluation is presented of the place of Vitallium mold arthroplasty in rheumatoid arthritis hips. The indications for surgery are reviewed, including mainly the following: 1. Surgery for pain; 2. Surgery for correction of deformity; 3. Surgery for the restoration of motion; 4. Surgery for the preservation of motion. The surgery of the hip in rheumatoid arthritis is presented as au incident in the total management of the patient with this disease. The complications and result of the surgery were evaluated by Dr. Solomon who had nothing to do with the surgery or the choice of patients. This we believe presents an unbiased opinion of the present status of mold arthroplasty.
