Isolation of alkaloids from ripe fruits of Ligustrum vulgare L. using 5% H 2 SO 4 and NH 3 , results in up to 12 spots on TLC giving positive tests with Dragendorff reagent. However, these compounds have been proved to be artifacts, generated by ammonia from secoiridoid glucosides. Four monomeric alkaloids have already been described. Meanwhile two dimeric pyridine alkaloids LA 4 (1) and LA 5 (2) have been isolated. Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic data.
