Nicotine and three major metabolites, cotinine and both isomers of nicotine‐ N ‐oxide, were found in the urine of healthy adults who had consumed tobacco snuff. The ratio of the metabolites was similar to that found in smoker's urine. Nicotine must, therefore, be absorbed from snuff through the nasal mucous membrane.
