This image designed by Keishi Naito and colleagues shows the cristobalite spherical particles fabricated by crystallizing the amorphous silica spherical particles. Sintering of the particles were prevented by low‐temperature crystallization with the addition of a crystallization aid. The particles were used as fillers in composites, and the tensile properties of the composites were evaluated. The tensile strength of both amorphous silica‐filled and cristobalite‐filled epoxy resin were improved by heating, due to the improvement of interfacial adhesion. In addition, the relative increase in strength of the latter was higher than that of the former because of its lower tensile residual stress in the matrix. DOI: 10.1002/app.50410
