The SEM image, presented by Horn‐Jiunn Sheen and colleagues, shows a water‐based intumescent coating with etherified MF and PVAc hybrid resin. The etherified MF resin and PVAc exhibited an interassociation of hydrogen bonds between the amine and the carboxyl groups. Using the hybrid resin as a binder in the intumescent paint would have a more compact and homogenous char layer structure, and thus resulted in higher flame retardancy performance. Furthermore, an evaluation of total heat release and CO/CO 2 emissions revealed that increasing the content of hybrid resin (15%‐25%) had similar flame retardancy effect. DOI: 10.1002/app.49279
