D. Sayama, M. Hatanaka, and M. Miyasaka revealed the role of surface hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity in polymer‐complexation kinetics. By using chitosan beads copolymerized with 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate and/or styrene, the film mass‐transfer coefficients in Cu(II)‐adsorption processes were measured by the batch method. It was found that thickness of boundary film decreases in the hydrophilic resin, and increases in the hydrophobic resin. While in the former case, the kinetics is particle‐diffusion control, in the latter case, the kinetics is film‐diffusion control. The observation is fully consistent with our theoretical formulation of the kinetics combined with the Einstein's viscosity theory. DOI: 10.1002/app.46493 .
