This back‐scattered electron SEM image from the Materials Research Group at Fairmount Santrol depicts the morphology of pre‐cured Novolac resin‐coated proppant particles isolated from a leaching experiment conducted at 250 °F under pH 10 conditions. The high retention of coating integrity of the proppant is evident from the image. The grey resin coating is dominant in contrast to the small, sporadic white spots due to silica, observed in the picture. The coating stability of the proppant post‐leaching is corroborated by the low‐to‐negligible levels of the leachants as determined by the 1H NMR and UV‐Vis Spectrophotometric analyses of the leachate.
