In this research, Qingsheng Liu and colleagues prepared highly porous PLA microfibers with a diameter of about 14 μm by melt‐spinning and stretching core‐sheath PLA fibers and by sequent treatment of ethyl acetate. The resulting pores are regular and elliptical. This new, facile method can prepare porous PLA fibers on an industrial scale. In addition, highly porous structures can also be formed by treating partially oriented PLLA yarn (POY) using ethyl acetate. However, the pore structures formed by this process are irregular.
