As shown in this figure from Seong Su Kim and colleagues, the as‐spun PVDF fiber passed through the coagulation bath has high porosity because the PVDF polymer solution leaves the spinneret in the liquid phase and begins to solidify after the removal of a large amount of solvent by water. The solid parts of the drawn fiber, however, became smoother and denser than that of the as‐spun fiber due to additional molecular orientation during the drawing process. This results in a change in the crystal structure and tensile strength. Consequently, most of the voids in the hot‐rolled PVDF fiber were removed. (DOI: 10.1002/app.45712 )
