In this research from Zhiqiang Fan and colleagues, ethylene polymerization was conducted in slurry process with a spherical MgCl2‐supported Ziegler‐Natta catalyst activated by triethylaluminum. The morphology of external surface of the nascent polymer paticles was observed by scanning electron microscope. In this SEM picture, the particle surface is covered by nodular and rope‐like structures. These structures are composed of clustered polyethylene crystalline lamellae in the form of platelets, and amorphous phases in between the platelets. Formation of the morphologies can be explained by the multiscale solid structure of the catalyst particle and dynamic interactions among the growing polymer phases. (DOI: 10.1002/app.45679 ).
