The TEM image from Ana María Herrera González and colleagues shows anisotropic Au nanoparticles obtained by green synthesis using a polyelectrolyte derivate of chitosan. The polyelectrolyte is able to reduce Au +++ ions and to act as a stabilizing agent of Au nanoparticles. The polyelectrolyte has sulfonate groups in the ortho position with respect to imine groups. This structural characteristic leads to obtaining Au nanoparticles with an anisotropic shape. The growth of the nanoparticles occurs around sulfonate and imine groups, where preferential growth is favored in a certain direction and is obtained with regular polyhedron shapes, decahedron and dodecahedrons. Nine percent of nanoparticles have triangular prism shape with an average size of 19 nm. (DOI: 10.1002/app.45240 ).
