Li Chang, Jing Wang, Chunyi Tong, Liang Zhao and Xuanming Liu synthesized a series of polyacrylonitrile fibers – MTPB‐PANF, ETPB‐PANF, HTPB‐PANF, OTPB‐PANF and DTPB‐PANF – modified with quaternary phosphonium salts having various alkyl chain lengths. The fibers& antimicrobial activities against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosaand Candida albicans were influenced by the alkyl chain length. Specifically, DTPB‐PANFexhibited high antimicrobial activity, and could kill all four pathogens in 15 min. Moreover, the fibers had excellent wash‐resistant properties and were nearly unaffected by environmental pHs (3–10). (DOI: 10.1002/app.43689 )
