Poly(lactic acid)/halloysite nanotube (PLA/HNT) nanocomposites are prepared using melt compounding followed by compression molding. Epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) is used to toughen the PLA nanocomposites. Wei Ling Tham, Beng Teik Poh, Zainal Arifin Mohd Ishak, and Wen Shyang Chow investigate the impact fracture surfaces of PLA/HNT nanocomposites containing 5 wt% ENR by using field emission scanning electron microscopy. The appearance of parabolic markings on the fracture surface is correlated with the energy consumed during applied impact energy. The addition of ENR into PLA nanocomposites can absorb much more energy when load is applied and remarkably improve the impact strength of PLA/HNT. (DOI: 10.1002/app.42850 )
