Since most textile materials such as fabrics and carpets are made up of flammable polymeric fibers, there is a necessity to incorporate fire retardants in order to assure safety. Applying coatings containing silicon, nitrogen and phosphorus elements could retard thermal degradation and change burning behavior of the textile materials. Sergey Chernyy, Saif Ulah, Gitte Sørensen, Sie Woldum Tordrup, Peter Bøgh Pedersen, and Kristoffer Almdal treat cellulosic textile material with phosphorus‐doped silica coatings. 10‐(2‐trimethoxysilyl‐ethyl)‐9‐hydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide is synthesized and incorporated into the sol–gel framework. The cover shows a SEM image of the nanosol‐coated textile. (DOI: 10.1002/app.41955 )
