1‐Substituted pyrroles such as 1‐(hydroxymethyl)pyrrole, 1‐(3‐hydroxypropyl) pyrrole, 1‐ H ‐1‐pyrrolylmethyl 4‐methyl‐1‐benzenesulfonate, 1‐ H ‐1‐pyrrolylpropyl 4‐methyl‐1‐benzenesulfonate, and 1‐ H ‐pyrrolylmethyloctanoate were synthesized and oxidative polymerized and copolymerized with pyrrole by using (NH 4 ) 2 Ce(NO 3 ) 6 and FeCl 3 . Some of the copolymers were slightly soluble in DMF and DMSO. The products were characterized by FTIR, 1 H‐NMR, and four‐point probe conductivity. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
