The 1,6‐ and 1,7‐dihydroxy alkanes having chain lengths C 13 –C 24 were synthesized in high purity by lithium aluminum hydride reduction of corresponding 6‐oxo and 7‐oxoalkanoic acids. These were then converted to 6‐hydroxy and 7‐hydroxy acrylic esters, respectively, and were characterized by infrared, 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectroscopic methods.
