NO 2 ‐initiated polymerization of acrylamide in dimethylsulfoxide was carried out. The dependence of monomer, initiator concentrations, and temperature on polymer yield and initial rate of polymerization was studied. The overall activation energy of polymerization was calculated to be about 15 kcal mol −1 . The copolymerization of acrylamide with methyl methacrylate was also studied. The kinetic mechanism of polymerization was proposed.
