The photolysis of Mn 2 (CO) 10 in the presence of nitrogen donor ligands has been investigated in various solvents. The disproportionation reaction has been found to be strongly dependent on the solvent and on the temperature. The substitution of CO with the nitrogen donor ligand takes place on the anion Mn(CO) − 5 . The polymeric ligand poly(4‐vinylpyridine) manifests a stabilizing effect on the substitution product.
