Polymerization of MMA was done in aqueous media and in a bulk (nonaqueous) system employing a H 2 O 2 ‐TU redox initiator system. Kinetic features differ significantly depending on the nature of the reaction media. The redox system is much more efficient as a chain initiator in aqueous media than in bulk MMA, where conversion to polymer, thermally and even under photoactivated conditions, is very slow and sluggish. In the bulk media, pronounced inhibition and retardation effects appear to be due to formation of unstable reaction intermediate presumably through dimerization of Ṡ(:NH)·NH 2 radical generated in the primary redox reaction.
