Ethylene copolymers containing even small amounts of certain N‐alkylacrylamides show some unusual properties: transparency while semicrystalline, preservation of stiffiness during reduction in crystallinity, and an unusual melt flow‐versus‐solution viscosity relationship. These properties are due to hydrogen bonding between macromolecules. By proper choice of the N‐alkyl group, copolymers containing more than 95% ethylene were made which were stiff, tough, and transparent.
