The determination of thiol groups formed during vulcanization in the complete range of 3–35 parts sulfur per hundred rubber–sulfur stock is reported. The results are explained on the basis of Fisher's mechanism for vulcanization of rubber and the assumption of three stages in the vulcanization process depending on the sulfur concentration.
