In the present communication the effect of p ‐toluenesulfonic acid catalyst on thermal polymerization of shellac has been investigated. The difference in activation energy for uncatalyzed and catalyzed reaction, has been computed to be 7.4 kcal. when c = 0.1%. The activation energy for uncatalyzed reaction, calculated on this basis comes to 12.5 keal.
