This paper reports the growth characteristics, measurement of fresh weight and dry weight of callus of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) cells grown on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2 mg/L NAA (naphtaleneacetic acid), 0.2 mg/L kinetin and 0.2 mg/L 2, 4‐D (2,4‐dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) at 25d̀C, under 16 hours light and 8 hours darkness. Leaf explants obtained from 3‐5 month old intact plants of tobacco were used to initiate cultures. MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/L NAA together with 0.2 mg/L kinetin gave rise to optimum callus induction.
