A mathematical model has been developed which accurately simulates a dual pressure nitric acid plant. The model simulates three complex reactions which occur in the plant, namely the oxidation of nitrogen monoxide; the dimerisation of nitrogen dioxide; and the absorption of nitrogen oxides in water.
