This article briefly reviews the history of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling at Alcoa over the past decade. Case studies from mechanical, chemical and environmental engineering have been used to demonstrate how CFD has changed from something of a back‐room curiosity into a mainstream engineering design and retrofit tool.
