The syntheses of the antimony analogue of betaine, Me 3 Sb + CH 2 COO − (1), of the precursor [Me 3 SbCH 2 COOH][Br] (2) and of [Me 3 SbCH 2 COOCH 2 CH 3 ][Br] (3) are reported. A new method for the synthesis of solvent‐free Me 3 Sb is described. The structures of 1·H 2 O and 3 were determined by single crystal X‐ray diffractometry. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
