Identification of the glycotope of avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC) O1 is important for the design of a new generation of improved and safer vaccines. In their Research Article on page 1789, Daisuke Takahashi, Kazunobu Toshima, and co‐workers synthesize the unique pentasaccharide derived from virulent E. coli O1 and reveal that the pentasaccharide is a glycotope candidate of APEC O1, with great potential as an antigen for vaccine development.
