RNA modification research is like natural product chemistry on a biopolymer scaffold. A thorough search, based on liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, identified an RNA modification containing a thioacetal structure. M. Helm and co‐workers show in their Communication on page 7893 ff. that this functional group, which is very rare in nature, is formed by a radical‐SAM enzyme that conducts two successive thiomethylation reactions on the same RNA residue.
