Like the peel of an orange the shell of core–shell capsules protects and encapsulates flavors and fragrances against premature degradation. To release the aroma in both cases, the peel or the shell has to be mechanically broken. In their Communication on page 2275 ff., D. L. Berthier, A. Herrmann, and co‐workers report that co‐encapsulation of 2‐oxoacetates allows the light‐triggered release of fragrances by photochemically generating a gas overpressure that ruptures the capsule wall without relying on additional mechanical pressure.
