When subjected to a light stimulus crystals of certain materials can suddenly hop and leap over distances 10 2 –10 5 times their own size to release the strain that accumulates in their interior as a result of a photochemical reaction. This photosalient effect is an impressive demonstration of the rapid conversion of light into mechanical motion on a macroscopic scale. In their Communication on page 9990 ff., P. Naumov, E. V. Boldyreva, and co‐workers analyze the kinematic motion patterns. Picture design by Bailey Curzadd.
