Since the discovery of CuCl 2 as a catalyst for HCl oxidation by Henry Deacon in 1868, suitable alternatives have not been found owing to the formation of volatile phases under reaction conditions and huge metal losses. In their Communication on page 9772 ff. , J. Pérez‐Ramírez and co‐workers describe the unprecedented stability of CuCrO 2 delafossite under chlorinating and oxidizing atmospheres.
