Two roads diverged : The mechanism of in situ Pd II catalyst activation to generate an active {L n Pd 0 } catalyst from an air‐stable Pd II precursor was examined using the standard conditions of a Miyaura borylation reaction. Two pathways for catalyst activation exist under these conditions, producing two structurally and chemically distinct {L n Pd 0 } complexes (see scheme).
