Noble‐metal nanocrystals with concave surfaces are usually encased by high‐index facets, and thus feature atomic steps and kinks with low coordination numbers (atoms in red) in high densities. In their Review on page 7656 ff. , Y. Xia et al. discuss how such nanocrystals of can exhibit significantly enhanced activities for a variety of reactions, including those in the petroleum industry, catalytic convertors, and fuel cells.
